REFERENCE: FR-WC Anti-Litter Council contributes $1,500.00 towards project for purchase of Organic Cotton Fair Trade Lunch bags and Ellie Jackson children’s books: “Duffy’s Lucky Escape”, “Marli’s Tangled Tale” and “Nelson’s Dangerous Dive”

Check Presentation to SHS ECSkyline High School Environmental Science, Ecology and Green Team with moderator Kara Lewallen and ALC President, Matt Wendling posing with check for $1,500 for Bags & Books for Kindergartener’s project

The FR-WC ALC recently contributed funding to assist the students at Skyline High School’s Green Team and adviser Kara Lewallen in purchasing lunch bags and books that promote benefits of using organic materials that can be reused, the concepts of “fair trade” and recycling/disposal of plastics and non-organic waste. The funds will allow them to purchase the books and bags in order to sell them as a combo to “Buy One, Give One”. For the cost of $35 a book and bag will then be donated to a kindergartner. Any funds raised will be put toward the purchase of additional bags and books, recycling bins for Town and County walking trails, a wildlife/pollinator garden at the high school, and a community Earth Day celebration to be held April 27th at Skyline High School.

“Make a difference in your Community”

REFERENCE: FR-WC Anti-Litter Council provides litter pick-up tools, gloves, bags and road marker signs for State Adopt-a-Highway and Town Adopt-a-Street programs.

ALC Clean Up FlyerThe Anti-Litter Council recently purchased litter pick-up tools, work gloves, portable trash carriers, trash bags, traffic cones and signs to loan out for roadside clean-up events scheduled by local school and civic organizations. The Council is developing a “Green Service” award for these roadside clean-up efforts. These events will also qualify the participants to enter the annual awards contest in which monetary prizes are awarded for litter control and recycling projects that impact the community in a positive way. The Council will loan these items out on a weekly basis at no charge to a designated representative of the organization with a signed agreement that the materials will be returned within 5 business days. Those interested in this program can contact Joe Petty or Matt Wendling in the County Planning Department, in suite 400 of the Warren County Government Center by phone: (540)636-3354 or via e-mail: This email address is being protected from spambots. Reference: The Front Royal-Warren County Anti-Litter Council receives State competitive grant to fund project to build & install Monofilament Fishing Line Collection Tubes at boat landings in Clarke, Frederick, Shenandoah and Warren Counties

Allie and Friends with MLRCs
In 2017 the Anti-Litter Council received a competitive grant for $3,000 for a regional project to be implemented by local high school student, Allison Cooper to manufacture and install Monofilament Line Collection Tubes (MLCTs) to be placed at location throughout the Northern Shenandoah Valley at boat landing along the Shenandoah River, Cedar Creek and Lake Frederick. Ms. Cooper recently completed the project by distributing nearly 20 MLCTs at various locations. She has enlisted a number of fellow students and members of the 4H-Skyline Shooters Club to monitor and maintain these tubes. Collection sites for storage of the used fishing line are located at the Warren County Convenience Centers which will then ship the line to Berkeley Company for recycling into fish habitats and tackle boxes. Look for the MLCTs at your local boat landing and please help keep our watershed free of this litter.
